SINOPSIS :

This book delves into the long journey of teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), which has evolved over centuries. From ancient methodologies to the most current ones, scholars, educators, and stakeholders have continuously adapted to changes in the field of English Language Teaching (ELT). This book provides theoretical insights into the concept of learning and teaching English as a foreign language, especially in Indonesia, where English is neither a domestic nor a native language.

As a specialized subject for English Language Education students, this book introduces the theoretical knowledge necessary to understand English and its teaching methods. Students in this TEFL course will explore various definitions, key figures behind ELT methods, characteristics, strengths, weaknesses, and the implementation of teaching methods from historical origins to more modern approaches.

The book aims to go beyond just learning about ELT methods—it encourages the development of sophisticated applications for these methods. The goal is for students to master the four core language skills: speaking, listening, writing, and reading in English. Through different learning experiences, students are expected to acquire knowledge that will help them effectively apply ELT methods.

By presenting the history of ELT methods concisely yet thoroughly, this book strives to achieve the core objective of TEFL: preparing students to apply effective English teaching methods that align with contemporary educational needs. Thus, this book serves as a valuable resource for students while contributing to the broader goal of enhancing English language teaching worldwide.
